Put two Iowa State sections through the educator credits form, and report what happens

I run Iowa State's Applied AI program and have taught 15,000+ students in sections of 90 to 100. I read the June Campus Community post, including why the student discount closed. This asks for nothing new: the form that exists, a per-class cap you set, and numbers back from me.

Term Spring 2027 (classes start late January)Sections two, about 200 studentsCost to Cursor credit under a cap you choose, plus one emailProduct changes none

The ask, sized to the campus team

StepWhat happensWho does it
1 · SubmitI file the educator credits request for two sections, with the course names, enrolment and syllabus links. One request per course.Me, this month
2 · CapYou approve with a per-student and per-class cap of your choosing (my suggestion: enough for one term of coursework, expiring at term end). No roster tooling needed; I hold the roster.Campus team
3 · RedeemStudents redeem with their iastate.edu address. I tell them in week 1 that credit is per course, non-transferable, and that resale ends the class's access.Me and the students
4 · ReportWeek 6 and end of term: share who redeemed, how much of the cap was used, cost per active student, any sign of resale or non-enrolled use, and whether I would renew. Results posted on the Cursor forum if you want them there.Me

Proposed sections (confirming enrolment on request)

  • AI 2010 · Introduction to Applied AI, about 100 students, non-majors. Cursor for small builds: a working tool from a prompt, then explain the code you did not type.
  • DS 2010 · Introduction to Data Science, about 100 students. Cursor in notebooks: inherit an analysis, fix it, defend the pull request.

What Cursor gets that it does not have

  • Redemption share and cap usage from a real course, not an event.
  • Fraud attempts caught and missed under a named-educator model.
  • Three workshop outlines Campus Leads can run as-is: Read before you write, Inherit a codebase, Find the agent's bug.

What this does not ask for

  • No reopening of the student discount.
  • No change to the form, Campus Leads, MLH or office access.
  • No Cursor Teams seats, no enterprise contact, no Grok anything. Grok Bot is a separate conversation with SpaceXAI's field team.
  • No budget beyond the cap you set.

If it works, the design that scales

A named educator applies per course; students redeem a capped coupon that expires at term end; tripwires on redemption speed and location claw credit back. It is the Google Cloud education-credit model, which stayed open where open student sign-ups did not. Details and the fraud comparison are on the full page, if useful.

One question decides it

Will you let two sections through the existing form this spring, with a cap you set, in exchange for the numbers above? A yes is one email to [email protected] from me with the two requests attached. A no costs nothing; I will run the sections on the free tier and still send the numbers.
